Celebrate Nova Scotia and Natal Day with The Campden

On the first Monday of every August, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia celebrates Natal Day! As a celebrated day from history, we love to acknowledge the importance of our region and country with activities, events, and engagements with every community.

Where it all began

We have Natal day as the official birthdate of our province. The term “natal” is derived from the Latin word for birth, and back in 1895, the first days of Natal celebrations were intended to mark the arrival of the railway line in the area. We even have symbols to represent the day–like Canada’s national flag and the provincial flags of Nova Scotia. The Angus L Macdonald Bridge, which connects Halifax and Dartmouth is often the center of many celebrations and activities.

A Day of Fun

Some of the cultural events last for the whole week at the end of July/beginning of August. For example, it usually includes:

-Parades

-Family events

-Firework displays

-Festival tents

-A large Birthday cake

-Live entertainment

When visiting Dartmouth, you can even explore local spots like John’s Lunch for award winning seafood, Charlie’s Lake for a beautiful nature walk, and ferry crossing for the best views. Natal day is one of the best times to come in the summer, when the communities are bustling with energy and Canadian spirit.
